Dear members, patrons and well-wishers, Welcome to the website of the Palakkad District Public Library. We enter our thirteenth year of service with renewed energy and success. Even though we have faced unprecedented challenges in yester years, we have overcome all such hurdles and Palakkad District Public Library is considered as one of the most active libraries of Kerala. This has happened only because of the support we received from all sections of people from every nook and corner of Palakkad District. Palakkad District Public Library is having a membership base of more than 13000 readers. Our collection of books and DVDs has grown to more than 125000. The Palakkad District Public Library is one of a kind in Kerala, and the size and range of its books are unmatched even in many metros throughout India. We offer a wide variety of books and DVDs for study and pleasure. A number of special sections or “Corners” feature favourite and eminent authors and philosophers—Gandhi, Vivekananda, EMS Namboodiripad, O.V. Vijayan and many more. We also have special sections on management, anthropology, Buddhist philosophy, Islamic studies and other fields in our extensive Reference section, many of them sponsored and supported by educational and private institutions. Our Children’s Corner is a bright and cheerful space with over 8000 books in Malayalam and English. The books in the Children’s Corner as well as in the main library boast a diversity that is rarely found in Indian libraries and book shops The library has been the scene of a rich variety of events and programs in literature, art, music, film, heritage and science. Palakkad District Public Library is conducting the following programmes regularly 1. Film Shows on all Sundays 2. Vayana , a discussion on Books monthly 3. Meet the Author programme monthly 4. Sarga Rashmi, a theme based Programme for Children to present their artistic and cultural talents 5. A Lecture on Current Topic by A Speaker of Repute every Month 6. A Lecture on Science & Technology in association with Indian Institute of Technology ,Every Month. 7. UnnikaleOruKadhaParayam, Story Telling to Children twice a month 8. Prathyasha, a Lecture programme to Senior Citizens every month 9. Counselling for Ladies every month 10. VayanaVedi, a Bulletin published Monthly to interact with members. Palakkad District Public Library is on the anvil of new programmes for youth For the comprehensive growth of the youth in the official, cultural and social fields, the following programes are chartered. 1. Life Skill Training Classes led by K. Anil Kumar, 2. Delectivity (Deleting the Negative Attitude Creatively) lecture series for the youth led by Sudeep T. George,. 3. Career guidance classes 4. Lecture series for children participating in competitive exams 5. Table & Stool program, 6. A Film production workshop in collaboration with the Chalachitra Academy 7. Disa Programme for Children in association with Kerala Lalitha Kalaa Akkadami 8. Various Lecture Classes for Elderly People State government and RRLF grants and the generosity of donors have made it possible for us to keep renewing and expanding our collection. Countless members, officials and friends have supported the Palakkad District Public Library with their patronage and hard work. Words cannot express our gratitude for your generous contributions. We look forward for increasing our membership, enlarging the spaces available for our members, and upgrading the library’s facilities and infrastructure.
